2 jailed for robbing church members

Former murder suspect in the Laing Avenue shooting, Negus Lamaizon and his alleged accomplice, Corinth Taylor, made their final court appearance on Wednesday before Magistrate Dylan Bess at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts as their robbery trial closed with a guilty verdict.
In April last, the two were arraigned before the court and remanded to prison for

robbing four church members at gunpoint when they crashed a farewell party on Regent Road in Georgetown. They had denied the allegation and were remanded to prison.
On Wednesday, the Magistrate declared that the prosecution had successfully proven its case against the two beyond reasonable doubt.
After taking into consideration, several mitigating factors in the circumstances, Magistrate Bess was inclined to deduce some time from the sentence he otherwise would have handed down, considering the length of time spent on remand.
Lamaizon was sentenced to four years and two months in jail, while Taylor would serve four years and six months in total.
The men were found guilty of robbing Adidre Liverpool, Robin Tibruce, Lester Andrews and Quacy Waldron, of a quantity of jewellery, smartphones and other valuables totalling over $500,000.
In a separate incident brought earlier this year, Lamaizon was hauled before the

courts after he was implicated in the murder of Orin Malik David, but was freed by Magistrate Bess after the prosecution’s evidence was ruled to be largely insufficient to commit him to stand trial in the High Court. He was slapped with the robbery charge two weeks after the murder charge was dismissed.
The second suspect, Samuel McIntyre also walked away a free man while their alleged accomplices, Jermaine “Smokey” Jeffers and Howard “Spleen” Rambarose were committed by Magistrate Judy Latchman in a separate Preliminary Inquiry (PI) as the prosecution managed to make a prima facie case against them.
