2 killed in separate accidents in Essequibo, Berbice

Two men lost their lives in separate accidents on Thursday and Friday along the Canje Public Road, Berbice, and the Adventure Public Road, Essequibo Coast.
The first accident claimed the life of 63-year-old Ameer Ally, a vendor of Adventure, Essequibo Coast.

The car that was involved in the fatal accident in Essequibo

Police stated that on Friday about 19:30h, motor car PWW 2293 was proceeding along the Adventure Public Road at a fast rate and struck down Ally who was walking on the corner of the road.
As a result of the collision, the elderly man fell on the roadway and sustained injuries to his body. He was picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the Suddie Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The driver of the motor car, who fled the scene, was subsequently arrested and is assisting with the investigations.
Meanwhile, on Saturday at about 8:10h, Lakeram Sarjoo, 52, of Main Street, Cumberland, East Canje, Berbice lost his life after he was struck off his bicycle by a taxi, HD 628, driven by a 47-year-old man of Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, Berbice.
Investigations so far revealed that the car was proceeding along the roadway at a slow rate of speed while the pedal cyclist was proceeding in the opposite direction swerving between vehicles.
The cyclist reportedly collided with the right-side front portion of the hire car, and as a result of the impact, he fell on the roadway. He was taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where he was treated for a fractured jaw and right leg.
He was admitted but later succumbed to his injuries. The driver was arrested as investigations continue.
