2 months later: Family awaits justice for fashion designer murdered in T&T
Family members of a murdered Guyanese fashion designer, cosmetologist, and runway coach, Latchman Singh, who was found dead in his apartment in Trinidad and Tobago with stab wounds about his body, say they are still waiting for justice from the Trinidadian authorities.
It has been more than two months since 27-year-old Singh also known as “Marcus” was found murdered in his apartment at El Dorado, Trinidad, and his family in Guyana are growing frustrated with what they believe is a long wait for justice.
Singh, popularly known as “Marcus” or “Marc Anthony Singh”, who originally hailed from Seventh Street Marthersville, Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara (ECD), had migrated to the twin island to seek betterment some six years go.
He was found dead on April 13, 2021, by one of his roommates. At the time, he was clad only in his underwear, and bore several stab wounds about his body.
While his family is still trying to put the pieces together to ascertain who might have wanted the man dead, his sister, Deepa Singh, has expressed frustration at having to wait this long to get justice for her brother.
The woman said several calls have been made to the authorities in Trinidad but the family is still being kept in the dark.
“They just ah put you on to this body, put you on to that body…then they tell you that the person who looking after the case, he’s on quarantine. I tried to call them but me ain’t getting through…I don’t know what happened to their phone.”
“It’s kinda stressful…Even if they don’t know who did it, at least let we hear something but we not getting nothing from them…We don’t know what more to do,” the sister expressed.
According to Singh her family had contacted Home Affairs Minister, Robeson Benn, who said he will try his best to assist the family, but they have not received any feedback since.
Following Singh’s death, his family was unsure if they would have been able to bring his body home for his funeral. Even though the borders were closed, Trinidadian authorities granted permission for the man’s body to return to Guyana for a proper burial by his family.
The post-mortem that was conducted on Singh’s body revealed that he died from multiple stab wounds to the neck and upper back, and blunt trauma to the head. Attempts to make contact with the authorities in Trinidad provide futile.
