Home News 2 more COVID-19 deaths, 59 new cases recorded
The Health Ministry has reported that two more persons have died of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) have died.
The latest fatalities are a 77-year-old Darnley Defreitas and 67-year-old Clifford Stoby, both from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica).
They both died while receiving care at a medical facility, the ministry reported. Defreitas died on September 25 while Stoby died on September 23.
The Health Ministry also reported that Guyana recorded 59 new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), taking the total number of positive cases to 2846.
Based on the statistics, 12 persons are now in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) – that number indicates that three more persons were moved to the ICU as compared to Monday’s figures.
The total number of confirmed cases shows that 1513 are males while 1333 are females. Thus far, 193 persons are in institutional isolation while 917 are in home isolation. 87 persons are currently housed in the institutional quarantine facilities while 80 persons have been recorded as recovered from the virus, taking the total number to 1644.
To date, 13,988 persons have been tested for COVID-19.
A breakdown of the positives showed new cases being recorded in the following Regions: eight in Region One (Barima-Waini), six in Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara), 39 in Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica), one in Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice), one in Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), and four in Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni).
The numbers remained the same in Regions Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo) and Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice), standing at 33, 286, 354 and 97 respectively.
The Public Health Ministry continues to urge all Guyanese to observe the protocols of the COVID-19 Emergency Measures (No 9) which are in effect until today, September 30, 2020. This order emphasises, among other things, the need for correct and consistent use of face masks when leaving home; the importance of maintaining the six feet physical distance from others, and the need for good hand hygiene to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
