Two Venezuelans were ordered deported when they appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts before Magistrate Judy Latchman.
Tandy Ramos and Levenie DeSantos both pleaded guilty to the offence of entering Guyana by sea on July 9, 2016 at Eterinbang, Cuyuni River, and disembarking without the consent of an immigration officer.
They were both fined $30,000 and deported.
Just about two weeks ago, 14 Venezuelans were deported from Guyana and a source disclosed that over 100 more are to be deported.
All of the deportees decried the hardship that they are faced with in their home country which contributed to them seeking refuge in Guyana.
Venezuela is currently facing its most devastating economic crisis caused in part by the decline in oil prices on the world market and its people have been suffering.
The people are calling for assistance as they claim that there is no food or jobs for them to provide for their families.
However, President David Granger explained that while the situation in the neighbouring country was cause for concern, Venezuelans are welcome in Guyana once they enter through legal means and abide by the laws.
