Two motorcyclists died in separate accidents on the East Coast of Demerara on Sunday.
Dead are Kevin Peters of Supply, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara (ECD), and Petal Payne of East Canefield, East Canje, Berbice.
Reports are that 23-year-old Peters died after he lost control of the motorcycle he was riding and plunged into a trench.
Kevin Ashley, 20, of Helena, Mahaica, ECD, was the pillion rider at the time of the crash; he remains in the hospital for observation.
The accident occurred at around 20:50h at Drill Old Road, Mahaicony, ECD.
Reports are that the motorcyclist was proceeding west along the southern drive lane at a fast rate.
While negotiating a right turn, the motorcyclist lost control of the bike and ended up in a nearby trench.
As a result, the driver and pillion rider received injuries about their bodies.
They were assisted out of the trench by public-spirited citizens and taken to Mahaicony Public Hospital where they were admitted patients.
Whilst being treated, the driver succumbed and the pillion rider is being kept for observation.
Meanwhile, 44-year-old Payne died along the Airy Hall Public Road, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara (ECD). The accident occurred at about 16:00h.
Reports are that the motorcyclist was proceeding south along the eastern side of Airy Hall Public Road when she lost control of the bike whilst negotiating a sharp right turn.
As a result, she fell onto the roadway and received injuries to her head and about her body.
She was picked up in a semi-conscious condition and taken to Mahaicony Public Hospital. She was treated and transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries around 22:00h on Sunday evening.
