Two persons have been arrested following the discovery of more than 46 kilograms of cannabis in a wooden vessel in the Canje Creek, Berbice.
The bust was made about 21:45h on Monday by ranks of the Guyana Police Force (GPF), who were acting on intelligence gathered.
According to Police, there were 24 parcels of marijuana in the boat which weighed a total of 46.980kg.
Two men, both residents of Sand Hills, Berbice River, have been arrested and have been
assisting with the investigation.
Only last week, four persons were arrested following the discovery of more than three kg of marijuana in a hire car.
Prior to that, the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) had swooped down on a vessel and discovered more than 27kg of cocaine concealed in a boat bow at the Parika Backdam, East Bank Essequibo (EBE).
The suspects held in the bust are 35-year-old Latchman Sankar, aka “Jack”, and 49-year-old Muneshwar Dusrajh, aka “Bonny”. The third man allegedly involved in the crime is Ryan Pemberton, commonly called “Sancho” of Alberttown, Georgetown, who is currently still at large. He reportedly threatened to kill the CANU ranks after the bust.
