2 vessels, 1 minibus seized with smuggled liquor, goods

The Law Enforcement and Investigations Division (LEID) of the Guyana Revenue Authority, with support from the Guyana Defence Force Coast Guard, on Wednesday seized a motor vessel laden with a large quantity of foreign liquor and other uncustomed items at the Abary foreshore in Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice).
The seizure occurred as the vessel was being operated by three men, who were arrested after they attempted to evade the law enforcement authorities.

And in a separate operation, LEID of the GRA, with support from the Guyana Police Force, seized another motor vessel and a minibus laden with a large quantity of foreign alcoholic beverages, cigarettes and other uncustomed items at the Number 43 Village koker on the Corentyne Coast in East Berbice. Five persons have thus far been arrested, and investigations are still ongoing.
The GRA has said that as it maintains a “zero tolerance” approach to smuggling and other illegal activities, it is encouraging persons involved in such activities to cease and desist therefrom, and bring themselves into compliance with the nation’s tax, trade and border laws.
