2 weeks at home will be better for all of us

Dear Editor,
Regarding the coronavirus, or COVID-19, there are persons questioning why there’s a comparison between First World countries and Guyana. Simply put, First World countries have readily available resources to address this virus on all platforms.
That being said, I would support the call for a total lockdown just for a 14-day period. During the lockdown, only essential businesses, such as pharmacies and supermarkets, should be opened for alternating hours and days. Also, we should only see essential personnel, such as medical personnel, GPF, Guyana Fire Service among other agencies, being on the roadways. If anyone ese is found on the road without suitable and reasonable explanation, that person should be charged (issued a ticket) during the lockdown period.
We are all concerned about those who aren’t able to stay at home. This is where those that are in authority should act within their powers to ensure persons have basic food items and cleaning supplies in their homes.
Two weeks at home will be better for all of us. It’ll decrease the spread of the virus, and allow us to spend valuable time with our loved ones; and some may even find or discover new hobbies while home. I am not a doctor, but I am concerned about our nation’s wellbeing.
Continue to practise social and physical distancing, and remember to sanitize as much as possible. Be safe everyone!

Sincerely,
Katrina Niamatali
