The search for a missing 20-year-old woman ended tragically on Friday after her body was discovered buried in a shallow grave at the back of a residence in Chelsea Park, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, prompting a murder investigation by Police.
Dead is Kerriana Standford, of Ann’s Grove, East Coast Demerara. Police said the alleged murder is believed to have occurred on Friday, July 3, at about 20:00h.
According to preliminary investigations, Standford had visited the home of a 24-year-old porter from Chelsea Park before she disappeared.
Acting on information received during the investigation, Police went to the Chelsea Park property on Friday, where they discovered the body of a woman buried in a shallow grave at the back of the residence.
Police said that further information led investigators to Enmore, East Coast Demerara, where the suspect was located and arrested. He was escorted to the Mahaicony Police Station and remains in custody.
Standford’s body was taken to the Mahaicony Cottage Hospital, where a doctor pronounced her dead-on arrival. It was later transferred to Bailey’s Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Investigations are ongoing.
