20-year-old remanded to prison for armed robbery

Daniel Mc Arthur, 20, a security officer of South Vryheids Lust, East Coast Demerara (ECD), was remanded to prison on Monday on an armed robbery charge, two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm, and two counts of unlawful possession of ammunition.

Mc Arthur appeared before Magistrate Bess at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court where he pleaded guilty to the armed robbery charge and was sentenced to two years, six months’ imprisonment.
In addition, he pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful possession of a firearm and was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment. Further, he pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful possession of ammunition and was sentenced to a year of imprisonment.
According to Police, the sentences are to run concurrently. However, he pleaded not guilty to one count of unlawful possession of a firearm and one count of possession of ammunition.
He will return to court on December 5, 2021, for the continuation of those matters.
