2016 Black Bush Polder triple murder: Confessed killer to be sentenced on Thursday

Jairam Chaitram, the 23-year-old accused who admitted to committing the murders of 37-year-old Pawan Chandradeo; his son, 15-year-old Jaikarran Chandradeo, and his 33-year-old brother-in-law Naresh Rooplall in July 2016, will on Thursday be sentenced by Justice Sandil Kissoon.

Also charged with the triple murder are Chaitram’s father, Carlton Chaitram, also known as ‘Lyma’, 40; Tameshwar Jagmohan, otherwise known as ‘Guana’, 21; and Rakesh Karamchand, called ‘Go-To-Front’, 30, – all residents of Berbice.
While Jairam Chaitram has pleaded guilty to this capital offence, his father and Karamchand have pleaded guilty to the lesser offence of manslaughter. They will be sentenced on February 17 by Justice Kissoon at the Berbice High Court.
Meanwhile, the prosecution, led by State Counsel Abigail Gibbs, is continuing with its case against Jagmohan, who has opted for a trial by jury.
The lifeless bodies of the three shooting victims were found days after they had left their homes to go on a fishing trip in Black Bush Polder, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne). Each body bore one gunshot wound.

Autopsies determined that these shooting victims had died from shock and haemorrhage. It was reported that a shotgun was used to shoot the men.
