21.5 kg of ganja seized during Police operation on EBD

Police in Regional Division Four C are investigating the discovery of a quantity of suspected cannabis during an operation on Strathspey Public Road, East Demerara.

The discovery was made on Thursday at about 09:00h while Police ranks were on patrol in the area. During the operation, a motorcar was intercepted and searched. According to Police, the vehicle was driven by a 35-year-old man from Glasgow Village, East Bank Berbice, and was occupied by a 31-year-old male passenger, a construction worker from Heathburn, East Bank Berbice.
Police said that a search of the trunk of the vehicle uncovered one bulky salt bag containing two plastic-wrapped parcels. The parcels contained leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis.
Both men were informed of the offence and arrested. They were taken into custody and escorted to the Cove and John Police Station along with the narcotics and the vehicle.
The cannabis was later weighed and amounted to 21.5 kilogrammes. Police said investigations into the matter are ongoing.
