21-year-old freed of rape charge

Freed: Jarrell Duke

Twenty-one-year-old Jarrell Duke on Monday exited the High Court a free man after a 12-member jury found him not guilty of rape.
Duke stood trial before Justice Brassington Reynolds on a charge of rape of a child under the age of 16 years old.
The unanimous not guilty verdict was returned after more than two hours of deliberation by the jury. Duke’s trial commenced before Justice Reynolds on April 2, 2019. It was alleged that he was engaged in sexual penetration with a six-year-old between December 14, 2013, and December 18, 2013.
The former accused was represented by Attorney-at-Law Rabindra Mohabir while the State’s case was presented by Prosecutors Seeta Bishundial, Lisa Cave and Sarah Martin.
After informing Duke that he was a free man, Justice Reynolds urged the young man to consider it as a second chance.
