The 2100-foot airstrip in Eteringbang, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) will soon be upgraded.
This was revealed by Public Works Minister Juan Edghill during a visit to the area on Tuesday. In a release from the Public Works Ministry, it was stated that during his visit, the Minister expressed concern over the maintenance of the airstrip as vegetation has overturn several parts of the facility. As such, Edghill suggested that the maintenance team explore marking the area and possibly spraying the grass for a permanent solution, which will also allow for drainage on the 2100-foot runway. Additionally, a meeting with residents in the area was also facilitated during which they suggested that laterite should not be used since it is a temporary measure. They explained that they would like the structure to be paved with concrete. The Minister assured residents that their suggestions and requests would be properly ventilated when discussions on an improved facility occurred.
