Home News 22 arrested in “Operation Safe Road” in Berbice
A total of 22 persons who were in breach of traffic and road laws were arrested during “Operation Safe Road”, which was conducted on Wednesday by ranks in Berbice, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne).
Reports are that officers conducted the operation within the Albion and Rose Hall areas.
Those arrested were for obstruction of traffic, driving unlicensed, obscured ID mark, using a handheld mobile device while driving, prohibition of tint, and failure to wear a seat belt.
In addition, drivers were also arrested for breach of insurance, breach of prescribed fitness, crossing the solid yellow line.
Arrests were also made for untidy drivers, misconduct of drivers and overloading of motor vehicle.
Previously, a total of 29 drivers were arrested during three separate enforcement exercises.
The operations were conducted at Vigilance, Beterverwagting and Berbice. Police at Beterverwagting had arrested eight drivers for breach of condition of road service while one driver was arrested for the prohibition of a tinted motor vehicle.
Further, at Vigilance, seven drivers had been arrested for the prohibition of tinted motor vehicle, while two were arrested for failure to produce their driver’s licence.
One person had also been arrested for poor maintenance of motor vehicle, another for untidy conductor, along with two for overloading and one for amendment of entry.
Two persons were also arrested for breach of prescribed fitness. Additionally, at Berbice, two drivers had been arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol while two were arrested for obscured ID mark front.
Moreover, one driver had been arrested for unlighted motor vehicle front while another was arrested for failure to produce driver’s licence.
