A total of 22 persons along the Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) are now trained as pharmacy assistants following a programme offered by the Health Sciences Division within the Health Ministry.
The pharmacy assistants received their certificates during a ceremony at Jaigobin Hotel, in Henrietta, Essequibo Coast.
Health Minister, Dr Frank Anthony, who was the featured speaker, urged the graduates to demonstrate compassion and kindness as they embark on their journey to serve the people of the region at the various healthcare facilities.
In a significant development, the Minister noted that the 22 graduates have secured positions within the Ministry, with a starting salary of $100,000 monthly.
Dr Anthony further emphasised the importance of education and highlighted the career progression opportunities available to them.
Additionally, Minister Anthony stressed the need for a growth mindset and encouraged the graduates to embrace a continuous learning attitude. He further noted his desire to see an increased number of individuals graduating and excelling in the field of pharmacy in Guyana.
However, Regional Health Officer, Ranjeev Singh emphasised that the region has made significant strides in the healthcare sector with the addition of 22 newly certified pharmacy assistants.
Singh encouraged others to join the programme.
In addition, the Deputy Officer of Health Science Education, Chandrowtie Narine, one of the facilitators, expressed joy in being part of the successful programme in the region while encouraging the graduates to take the various opportunities that are available to further develop their skills.
Meanwhile, Meesasha Ramdas was named the best student followed by Mark Fernandez, Keneeza Trim and Zoya Alphans.
The Pharmacy Assistant Training programme was launched in Region Two on October 31, 2022. It is a comprehensive pre-service clinical programme designed to equip pharmacy assistants with the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to provide valuable technical support to licensed pharmacists.
Through this programme, the graduates gain a deep understanding of pharmaceutical practices, medication management, and patient care. By acquiring these essential skills, they are now able to contribute effectively to the healthcare system and ensure the safe and efficient delivery of pharmaceutical services.
