23-man Golden Jaguars squad named to face Puerto Rico

The Golden Jaguars will resume their CONCACAF Nations League campaign tomorrow

The Guyana Football Federation (GFF), on Thursday morning, revealed the 23-member squad that will suit up for the Senior Men’s National team in the second leg of the 2023/ 2024 CONCACAF Nations League Group stage.
The announcement of the squad came two days before the first game against Puerto Rico, which is scheduled to be played in St. Kitts and Nevis.
In a recent interview with the Guyana Times Sport, Head Coach Jamaal Shabazz shared some of the changes to expect as compared to the September Squad.
“We have some changes because Johnny Grant, our Right wing back who plays in Canada, he’s free of injury. Nathan Moriah- Welsh, little beany midfielder, he’s back from injury and Reiss Grenidge, left- footed center back from the UK, he’s also free from injury. So, three of them have been brought into the squad,” Shabazz divulged.

He added, “In terms of the local composition, we see now we’re getting more work from Ryan ‘Bom Bom’ Hackett and that’s mainly the four additions to the squad basically.”
As such, the Golden Jaguars squad reads: Goalkeepers: Quillan Roberts Akel Clarke and Kai McKenzie-Lyle, Defenders: Jeremy Garrett, Curtez Kellman, Jalen Jones, Reiss Greenidge, Colin Nelson, Leo Lovell, Raushan Ritch, Liam Gordon, Jonathan Grant and Amos Ramsay, Midfielders: Daniel Wilson, Stephen Duke-McKenna, Nathan Moriah-Welsh, Darron Niles, Ryan Hackett and Elliot Bonds and Forwards: Omari Glasgow, Kadel Daniels, Deon Moore and Kelsey Benjamin.
With the team encamped in St. Kitts since Sunday, Shabazz also touched on the preparatory work and the team’s hunger to get atop their group.
“We’ve put in a lot of work with the local squad and we’ve monitored carefully, the overseas players playing in their clubs. It’s very important two matches for us, Puerto Rico is a formidable opponent but we’re confident that when we come together in St. Kitts with 4-5 days preparation with everybody together, we will do what it takes because we really want this,” the Golden jags Head Coach shared with this publication prior to their departure of local shores.
As a result of both Guyana and Puerto Rico having issues with their home pitches, both games will be played in St. Kitts on Saturday, October 14 and Tuesday, October 17.
Guyana is currently second in Group D of League B with 6 points from 2 games, as Puerto Rico leads the group, only on the account of goal difference. The back-to-back fixtures will both be played at the St. Kitts and Nevis Football Association (SKNFA) Technical Center. (Jemima Holmes)
