A total of 24 athletes were named over seven disciplines to represent Guyana in Gold City, Australia in this year’s games. The seven disciplines are Badminton, Boxing, Rifle Shooting, Squash, Swimming, Table Tennis and Athletics.
The simple meeting was staged to give an update on the team’s or individuals competing. Coaches of five disciplines were present while Athletics and Rifle Shooting were not.
The coaches all shared the same sentiment that these athletes need the exposure and experience that will be gained in this 72-nation event. It seems all the athletes were in preparation prior to selection since they were anticipating the opportunity to be a part of the games.
However, the coaches were quite appreciative that their teams will arrive with no less than a week in advance to be better acclimatized and put their best foot forward. Meanwhile, some coaches that think their athletes might not be I medal contention are confident their athlete(s) will perform to the best of their abilities.
The athletes are Narayan Ramdhani (Badminton); Keevin Allicock and Colin Lewis (Boxing); Ransford Goodluck and Lennox Braithwaite (Rifle Shooting); Mary Fung-A-Fat, Taylor Fernandes, Sunil Seth and Jason Khalil (Squash); Andrew Fowler and Jamila Sanmoogan (Swimming); Priscilla Greaves, Trenace Lowe, Christopher Franklin, Natalie Cummings, Shemar Britton, Nigel Bryan and Joel Alleyne (Table Tennis); Troy Doris, Winston George, Emanuel Archibald, Leslain Baird, Natricia and Natrena Hooper (Athletics).
Noel Adonis has been named the Chef-d-Mission, David Fernanades, General Team Manager and Juantia Fernandes, the chaperone.
