25 local businesses complete HSSE training

Twenty-five local companies have completed the Centre for Local Business Development’s (CLBD) Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) Management System Programme.
At an award ceremony held recently, the 25 businesses were applauded for completing the programme by Labour Minister Joseph Hamilton and Tourism, Industry, and Commerce Minister Oneidge Walrond.
Also, CLBD’s Director, Natasha Gaskin-Peters offered congratulations to the company. She said, “The Centre would like to congratulate all of the 25 local businesses for not only beginning but sticking through and completing the programme. The creation of an HSSE Management System in your businesses will not only help you to compete for contracts in the oil and gas industry but in other diverse sectors.”
The CLBD said that HSSE in the oil and gas industry is a top priority. And with Guyana producing oil, it noted that there is an enormous opportunity to address gaps and ensure HSSE is interwoven in the country’s business culture.
The Centre said it plays an integral role in fostering the development and expansion of a safe culture in Guyana. To match this increased demand, the CLBD developed a HSSE Management System Programme in conjunction with members of the oil and gas industry.
This programme commenced in July 2019 and has since assisted over 250 businesses to begin their HSSE Management System journey. The programme begins with an initial awareness session, followed by a combination of site visits, creation of documentation and processes, assessment sessions, and follow-up visits.
To date, 25 companies have completed the programme.
The 25 graduating businesses are: SEAJ EcoClean Services, Environmental Management Consultants, Guyana Oil & Gas Support Services Inc, Metro Office, and Computer Supplies, Silvie’s Industrial Solutions, Puran Brothers Disposal Inc, Guyana Logistics and Support Services, Queensway Security Services Inc, B&J Civil Works, Herdmanston Lodge, Grand Coastal Inn Inc, Eureka Medical Laboratories Inc; Hughes, Fields & Stoby; Zeco Group of Companies, Ground Structures Engineering Consultants, Marine Traders Atlantic, IMEX Inc, Arrow Oilfield Services Inc, Pinnacle Business Services Inc, Sagacity Inc, Symmetry Brokerage and Logistics, Strategic Recruitment Solutions, Chung’s Global Enterprise, Camsol Inc, and GR Engineering Co.
The Centre for Local Business Development is Guyana’s premier source for oil and gas industry information, local business development, professional networking, and policy advocacy. Since launching in 2017, it has been meeting the growing demands of Guyanese businesses by offering training, mentoring for growth, and procurement linkages.
It continues to spur local competitiveness and drive inclusive economic growth. Its integrated approach helps Guyanese businesses benefit from offshore oil and gas opportunities and business expansion while maximising skills transfer and technology development.
