26 New Year’s Day babies welcomed

A number of families ushered in the new year with a double celebration as they welcomed new arrivals.
The Georgetown Public Hospital was filled with laughter and delight when 21 parents rang in the new year with their little bundles of joy.

Visitors swarmed to meet and greet their loved ones, who were all fortunate to be celebrating the new beginning with the gift of life.
Those mothers who gave birth to babies just after midnight were all presented with hampers, courtesy of ANSA McAL.
However, the first child, born to Dhanwantie Singh, was presented with a special hamper from Republic Bank of Guyana, and to the delight of the parents, a Starter’s Account was also opened, courtesy of the Bank.
In Berbice, two New Year’s babies were born at the New Amsterdam Hospital; both mothers delivered 2.8kg babies on Sunday. This year, a 19-year-old mother was the first to deliver her baby.
Sooma Devi Lall gave birth to a baby girl at 02:20h, who was delivered by midwife K Woolford. This is the second child for Lall, who now has two girls. The young mother lauded the efforts of the nurses in the Maternity Unit.
At 07:16h, Doctor Oma Persaud delivered a boy for 24-year-old Neirmala Choorman of Rosignol Village, West Coast Berbice (WCB). She was admitted at 03:00h on New Year’s Day, but gave birth four hours later. This is Choorman’s fourth child, but it is the first time that she delivered a baby in the hospital.
Both mothers were also presented with hampers by ANSA McAL Marketing Assistant Alicia Messiah.
In the mining town of Linden, the Linden Hospital Complex (LHC) recorded two New Year’s births.
And in Charity, Region Two (Pomeroon- Supenaam), one birth was recorded at the Charity Hospital.
