Home News $28.8M nursery school for Schoonord, La Parfait Harmonie
Two of the fast-growing housing schemes on the West Bank of Demerara, Schoonord and La Parfaite Harmony, will now benefit from easy access to nursery education with the construction of a $28.8 million nursery school.
Since the two communities are adjacent to each other, the school, which is built in Schoonord, can easily be accessed by residents in La Parfaite Harmonie.
Built to the tune of $28.8 million and features seven classrooms, the school, which caters for over 100 students within its catchment area, has seven classrooms, a sizable kitchen, modernised sickbay, a spacious staff room among other necessary rooms.
The contract was awarded to KP Engineering and signed at the Communities Ministry back in June of this year. Regional Executive Officer Denis Jaikaran noted that through consultation, the building of the school was envisioned.
“We held consultative sessions across this entire region and found that this project was most important for the people of Schoonord and La Parfaite Harmonie and more so it is in keeping with Government’s policy of providing resources to our communities for an improved society through education,” Jaikaran is quoted as saying by the Department of Public Information.
He further noted that over 5000 residents live in the communities and will receive direct benefit from the school when it begins to function.
Regional Education Officer Annesta Douglas when asked about the opening of the school noted that preparatory works are currently ongoing which includes auxiliary and administrative staffing and provision of other necessary resources. She hinted that a January start-up is envisaged.
