The 28th edition of the R&R International-sponsored 11-race and 40-mile road races are set for this weekend.
This event is organised by National Cycling Coach Hassan Mohamed and this intriguing event is expected to feature the best riders in the country turning out to the inner circuit of the National Park for the 11-race programme on Saturday, February 8 from 09:00h.
On the following day, Sunday, February 9, the riders will then head to West Bank Demerara, where they will pedal off from Schoonord at 08:00h and head to Bushy Park before returning to the starting point in pursuit of the checkered flag to complete the 40-mile journey.
Romello Crawford is the reigning champion after finishing the 35-lap Schoolboys and Invitational featured race in one hour, 43 minutes and 14 seconds. Also set to defend their title in the event are Sherwin Sampson (Juveniles), Jaikaran Sukhai (Veterans U-50), Kennard Lovell (Veterans U-50) and Jaheim Henry (BMX 12-14 years).
Paul Denobrega had won last year’s open category in one hour, 37 minutes and 15 seconds, while Sampson won the Juveniles division, Hector Edwards Jr won the mountain bike category and Alex Mendes won the veterans group in the 40-miler.
Jacob Rambarran of R&R is expected to be on-hand to help with the distribution of prizes and to witness the action.
R&R International Managing Director Rambarran was a past cyclist and this is his 28th year which his firm has been a supporter of cycling in Guyana, and this collaboration is just another demonstration of that commitment.
