29 to continue training to possibly represent Berbice

GCB Inter-County U-19 tournament…

The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) selectors have trimmed to 29 the squad which would continue training for possible selection to the final Berbice Under-19 team which would represent the county in the GCB Inter- County tournament.
Last Wednesday, the selectors released the names of those players who would engage in further trial matches. They are: Fawaz Gafoor, Rampertab Ramnauth, Ricardo Ramdihal, Marvan Prashad, Seon Glasgow, Shamar Angel, Chandrapaul Govindan, Nigel Deodat, Gourav Ramesh, Doorasammy Mahadeo, Gevon Shultz, Leon Swammy, Abdul Ramsammy, Tomani Caesar, Lloyd David, Akash Heeralall, Zeynul Ramsammy, Jermey Sandia, Inzam Shazam, Tyrese Sealey, Jonathan Rampersaud, Aaron Beharry, Isaiah Thorne, Reyad Karim, Sarwan Chaitnarine, Isiah Anderson, Christopher Deroop, Mahendra Gopilall and Collis Noble.
Over the last weekend, the BCB held two 50-over trial matches at the Albion Community Centre Cricket Club ground. In the first match, former West Indies Under-15 batsman Rampertab Ramnauth of the Port Mourant club scored the lone fifty. In the second match, Gevon Schultz’s XI, batting first, scored 128 all out in 41 overs. Blairmont’s Fawaz Gafoor scored a breezy 47, Zeynul Ramsammy scored 19, and Lloyd David scored 12. Aaron Beharry claimed 3-17 in seven overs, and Tyrese Sealy took 3-20 in five overs.
In reply, Seon Glasgow’s XI scored 129-9 in 40 overs. Batting at the top, Ramnauth stroked five fours in his top knock of 54, while Jermey Sandia and Sealy scored 11 and nine respectively.
In the first match played on Saturday, Marvan Prashad top-scored with an attractive 41, while Shamar Angel made 25. Glasgow’s XI posted 155 all out in 49.2 overs. Seon Glasgow (21); Abdul Ramsammy (21); Ricardo Ramdehol (18) and Leon Swammy (17) were among the runs. Shamar Angel, Jonathan Rampersaud, Gourav Ramesh, Akash Heeralall and Izam Shazam each took two wickets.
In reply, Schultz’s XI made 110-4 in 32 overs. In addition to Prashad’s classy 41*and Angel’s 25, Fawaz Gafoor made 15 and Rampersaud contributed 10. Swammy, Isiah Anderson and Delshawn McDonald each took one wicket before rain ended the day’s play.
The final squad will have training sessions ahead of the proposed GCB Under-19 tournament, tentatively set for mid-January 2021.
