2nd bridge commissioned in Laing Avenue

A second bridge that was constructed in Laing Avenue, Georgetown was on Tuesday commissioned and would see residents taking full advantage.
The construction of the $3 million bridge, which commenced two weeks ago, was a collaborative initiative of the Communities Ministry and the Georgetown Mayor and City Council.

According to City Councillor Trichria Richards, this is the second bridge to have been commissioned.
“This project is one that the Ministry would have undertaken in Constituency 13. We had four projects that were given subvention from the Ministry in the year 2019. The projects are two bridges in Laing Avenue and two community grounds in East and West Ruimveldt,” Richards explained.
She added when the project to rehabilitate the Carci Bridge, which has been deteriorating for several years, was earmarked, Communities Minister Ronald Bulkan readily made the funds available to commence construction.
According to the Councillor, three of the four projects commissioned are completed and the maintenance of the two grounds will be overlooked by the committee that was formed by members of West Ruimveldt community.
A resident related that the initiative was a good one, especially for the schoolchildren.
“It is good that the bridge is being placed here, so it will be more convenient for the schoolchildren and persons of the community and I do appreciate the effort that is being placed towards it; overall, I am satisfied.”
Another resident, Curt Williams, also called “Chubby”, a well-known comedian, related that he has been living in the community for the past 18 years and the newly-commissioned bridge was about improving the livelihoods of persons living in the community.
