The second suspect in the botched robbery at Houston, Greater Georgetown, which left one bandit dead, was arrested by Police and he is expected to be charged soon.
The man who escaped on Friday after his accomplice, Gary Koster was shot dead by the businessman whom they were trying to rob, is a known character to the Police.
Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum confirmed that the suspect resides in Norton Street, Bagotstown, and was granted bail by the Magistrate’s Court about three months ago on an armed robbery charge.
Blanhum noted that he was positively identified as the second suspect in the attempted robbery on Friday.
Reports are Koster, 38, along with the man in custody were on a black and grey CG motorcycle, CH 2167, and trailed a 48-year-old businessman of Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara and attacked him. However, in retaliation, the businessman pulled out his licensed .32 Taurus revolver and discharged several rounds in the direction of the alleged bandits.
One of the bullets struck Koster to his left-side temple and another to his neck, while his accomplice fled the scene on foot. Koster died on the spot. His relatives who spoke with Guyana Times on Saturday last, are of the belief that market vendor was executed and called for a thorough investigation into the alleged robbery.
They also claimed that the now dead man was “no thief” but Police have confirmed that he was fingered in several armed robberies.
At the scene on Friday last, the Police retrieved one 9mm and three .32 spent shells. The one 9mm spent shell, Police disclosed, was fired from a gun the dead man’s accomplice was carrying.
During the attempted robbery, the gunman dealt one blow to businessman’s face while at the same time discharged a round but the bullet missed its intended target.
It was at this time, the businessman whipped out his firearm and fired three shots with two hitting Koster who fell to the ground. The second suspect is expected to be brought before the courts before the end of the week.
