Police now have in their custody three men, after they were found with a firearm with matching ammunition in their possession at Mahdia, Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni).

The discovery was made sometime around 17:45h on Friday.
Reports are that ranks from Regional Division Eight were on traffic duties at Seven Miles, Mahdia, when they stopped an ATV without any identification mark. They requested the driver to produce his licence and other documents for the ATV, which he failed to do.
As a result, the rider and two other males who were also on the ATV with him, were escorted to the Mahdia Police Station where a black 9mm handgun and 9 live rounds were found on them.
The three suspects are in Police custody as investigations continue.
This arrest comes on the heels of a recent discovery of an illegal firearm by Police at Number 63 Beach, Corentyne, Berbice.
Police said two men who reside in Nickerie, Suriname, were arrested following the discovery of a 9mm semi-automatic pistol and eleven 9mm rounds at the Number 63 Beach.
The discovery was made at around 13:00h on Wednesday last by ranks from the Number 51 Village Police Station, who were acting on information received.
The two suspects, aged 46 and 37, both fishermen, are currently in Police custody. (G9)
