3 arrested for gun, ammo bust

three persons, including a woman, were on Thursday taken into Police custody following the discovery of a quantity of suspected cocaine, a gun and several rounds of ammunition in a house in Diamond, East Bank Demerara.

According to reports gathered, ranks of the Major Crimes Unit acted on information received and went to a house located at Section A Block X Diamond, where they conducted a search on the premises.

The three persons who were at home at the time were arrested and taken to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters where they were grilled. The whitish substance suspected to be cocaine was subsequently tested, but turned out to be baking soda.

Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum when contacted confirmed that the Police conducted the raid on the house and what was initially suspected to be cocaine was actually baking soda.

“From all indications, it seems as though the trio was about to trick someone,” the Crime Chief stated. He noted that the Police were continuing their investigations and the trio would be charged.
