3 arrested for Port Mourant Chinese Supermarket robbery

Three persons are now in custody in connection with an armed robbery committed at the Long Sheng Chinese Supermarket, at Ankerville, Port Mourant, Corentyne, Berbice.

Guyana Times understands that the three men were arrested during a cordon-and-search operation by ranks in B Division.
Those in custody are Denzil Thomas of Carpen Street, Rose Hall Town; Kelvin Bates of New Market Street, Corentyne and Nitesh Nandlal, a driver of Portuguese Quarter, Port Mourant.

It was reported that three masked men, armed with guns and a cutlass, invaded the supermarket around 20:00h and demanded cash.
Surveillance footage seen by this publication showed two men barging into the supermarket, while a third person kept guard.
The suspects accosted a Chinese national, 22-year-old Baosheng Zouand, while holding one of the female staff at gunpoint.
The sales representative was led to the cashier booth, along with one of the owners, and was forced to put the day’s sales in a bag. The footage also showed the bandits gun-butting and kicking the Chinese nationals.
Zouand was later taken to a room in the Supermarket where he handed over a large sum of cash.
The armed men escaped with $1.4 million in cash, a quantity of GTT and Digicel phone cards and one black Huawei cell phone.
In addition, Qiu Jing Zou, 48, one of the owners of the supermarket, was relieved of $10,000 while the sales representative’s Samsung Galaxy cellphone was taken away.
After the ordeal, the three men made their escape in a waiting motor car. The crime was reported and the Police launched an investigation.
