3 arrested with cocaine at Zeelugt

Three men were arrested on Saturday evening after they were found to be in possession of eight grams of cocaine at Zeelugt New Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo (EBE).
Police stated that on the day in question at about 22:00h, a Police mobile patrol along with members of the Community Policing Group were in the area when they observed the three men sitting on a culvert.
However, as the ranks were about to pass them, a CPG member observed one of the men throwing a small transparent ziplock bag to the ground while another threw a $1000 note to the ground.
The ranks exited the vehicle and retrieved the ziplock bag and the cash. The ziplock bag was opened in the presence of the men during which eight pieces of cocaine were found.
In addition, upon opening the wrapped $1000 bill, twenty-three pieces of cocaine were also discovered.
They were told of the offence committed but they all denied having knowledge of the package. As such, they were taken to the Leonora Police Station along with the suspected cocaine, which was weighed and amounted to eight grams. They remain in custody pending charges.
