A 26-year-old male from Lamaha Park, Georgetown, was arrested on New Year’s Day following the discovery of a firearm and ammunition during an intelligence-led operation at South Ruimveldt, Georgetown.
Police stated that at around 03:40h on Thursday, ranks on a mobile patrol observed a motor car proceeding along Durban Street, and as the ranks approached, it sped off.
However, the car was intercepted at Aubrey Barker and High Palm Roads, where a search of the vehicle unearthed a 9amm pistol and a magazine containing three live rounds of matching ammunition in the driver-side door.
The suspect was arrested and remains in custody pending charges.
Meanwhile, a 38-year-old businessman from Republic Gardens, Georgetown, was taken into custody after he was found to have a firearm and ammunition in his possession on Thursday, January 1, at the Sparendaam/Plaisance Railway Embankment Area, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

Police stated that acting on information received, ranks intercepted a motorcycle driven by the businessman, leading to a search being conducted on his person, during which a .40 Smith & Wesson pistol was found tucked in his waist along with a magazine containing one live matching round of ammunition.
He was taken to the Sparendaam Police Station, where he remains pending charges.
In another separate incident, a 47-year-old chief security officer was arrested after a firearm and ammunition were found at the Sparendaam/Plaisance Railway Embankment Area, ECD.

Police stated that during an operation just after 06:00h on Friday, January 2, ranks observed the suspect standing among several individuals, but upon noticing the police, he walked away in a hurried manner.
As such, he was intercepted, and a search of his person led to the discovery of a 9mm Taurus pistol along with a magazine containing five live rounds of matching ammunition.
The security officer was taken to the Sparendaam Police Station, where he was interrogated and remains in custody.
