3 busted with over 2kg ganga at Police checkpoint

The ganja that was found at 70 KM Checkpoint

Police arrested three men on Saturday after a quantity of marijuana was found in their possession during a search at the 70 KM Checkpoint, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).
Based on reports received, at about 01:10h on the day in question, the three males, aged 23, 29 and 36, respectively, were found with 2kg 436 grams of cannabis.
The men were reportedly occupants of a motor lorry bearing registration number GTT 3751 when it was stopped and searched by Police. At the time, the truck was being driven by a 32-year-old male and had eight other passengers.
Police said during the search of the lorry, they found a white salt bag which contained three bulky parcels wrapped in transparent plastic. A closer inspection unearthed the ganja.
The occupants of the lorry were arrested and escorted to Bartica Police Station along with the cannabis. At the station, the cannabis was weighed and amounted to 2436 grams.
As investigations proceeded, it was disclosed that the salt bag belonged to three of the eight persons aboard the lorry, who were picked up from Buck Hall Landing. The men were told of the offence, cautioned and arrested.
They are expected to make their court appearance in the new week.
