3 hospitalised after bee attack at Pomona

Residents living in Pomona New Housing Scheme on the Essequibo Coast in Region Two (Supenaam-Pomeroon) are fearful about freely going about their daily routine owing to a swarm of bees in the area.
Seven persons have thus far been stung by the bees, three of whom are presently hospitalised at the Suddie Public Hospital. They are currently being treated for hundreds of bee stings.
According to residents, the bees, suspected to be Africanised, are currently on a mango tree near an abandoned house. The house was previously occupied by some overseas-based Guyanese.
Pomona residents are, therefore, calling on the Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) to chop the mango tree down or to have someone in the business of apiculture remove the bees from the area. (Indrawattie Natram)
