3 in custody, 3 wanted for vendor’s murder

As investigations continue in the murder of Ron Mansfield, a phone card vendor of Lot 772 Westminster, West Bank Demerara (WBD), the Police have arrested three persons and are on the hunt for three others.
A source close to the investigation told Guyana Times that detectives received several leads in connection with the murder, which occurred on June 19 in front of the now dead man’s home.

The 37-year-old phone card vendor was shot dead during a robbery. It was reported that the now dead vendor had just returned home on his motorcycle when he was approached by a young man, who demanded that he hand over the bag he was carrying.
The vendor reportedly put up a fight and in retaliation, the gunman discharged a round hitting him in his chest. The suspect then collected the man’s bag which contained an undisclosed sum of money and a quantity of phone cards and escaped.
The man’s wife had told Guyana Times that her husband returned home about 20:30h after plying his trade and upon doing so, he collected a bottle to purchase water. Soon after, the distraught woman explained she heard the sound of a gunshot followed by screaming children.
As she looked out, she saw her husband a short distance away with blood oozing from his chest. He was picked up and was being rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital when he succumbed to his injuries.
The now dead man had been selling phone cards for about five years. The man leaves to mourn his wife, two children, and other relatives.
