Three suspected bandits are now in Police custody after they were intercepted along the Meer Zorgen Public Road, West Bank Demerara (WBD) following a robbery at Canal Number One Polder on Wednesday morning.
The men were caught by ranks who were at the time conducting a stop and search exercise on the Meer Zorgen Public Road at the western end of the Demerara Harbour Bridge (DHB).
According to information received, about 03:30h, the men attempted to cross the Harbour Bridge in a yellow wagon, which was stopped and searched.
A laptop, ear-pieces, four cellular phones, an Amazon tablet, an assortment of jewellery, a Guyana Passport, local and foreign currencies and other items were found in the vehicle.
The men were escorted to the La Grange Police Station where moments later, a report was made of a robbery, which occurred at Canal Number One Polder, another West Bank village.
The victims visited the Police Station where they positively identified the stolen items.
The Police in a release stated that the regular presence of ranks at the western end of the DHB has been very successful, since a number of persons have been arrested and charged with gun and ammunition possession, and other offences.
Moreover, the Police maintained that there has been a decrease in serious crimes in the West Demerara-East Bank Essequibo region as a result of the initiative.
