3 nabbed in Wakenaam with over $1.2M in stolen cigarettes

An 81-year-old businessman of Good Success, Wakenaam, was robbed of 350 cartons of cigarettes after bandits broke into his canter and carted off with the supplies. Three suspects have since been apprehended by Police.
Based on Police information, the incident occurred between 18:30h on Thursday and 05:30h on Friday.
Noon Persaud had secured the cartons of cigarettes in a canter at his Good Success, Wakenaam, Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara) home. It was parked under a shed and he later retired to bed.
On Friday morning, he woke up and noticed a dent in the rear fence. The zinc material was bent and Persaud immediately went into an alert state. He immediately checked the canter and found that the cartons were missing. The items were valued at a combined $1,248,219.
A report was filed at the San Souci Police Station and later that day, Police acting on information gathered and mobilised ranks to a centre ground at Good Success. There, 318 cartons along with eight packs of cigarettes were recovered. It was lodged at the station.
Upon further investigations, ranks arrested three males – one from Tuschen Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo, and two from Wakenaam Island. They were taken into custody to assist with the investigation. (G12)
