$300,000 bail for club owner found with 19 kg ganja
Three months after being on remand for allegedly having 19.188 kilograms of cannabis in his possession, popular nightclub owner Clyde Barrett was released on $300,000 bail on Monday after making his second court appearance.
Barrett stood before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, who granted him his pre-trial liberty.
The charge against Barrett stated that on July 17, 2018, he had 19.188 kilos of
cannabis for the purpose of trafficking at his nightclub, which is located in Charlestown, Georgetown.
According to the prosecution’s case, Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) ranks went to Barrett’s Sussex Street, Charlestown business place on July 17, and carried out a search which resulted in the recovery of the cannabis hidden in a kitchen cupboard, which had to be opened using Barrett’s key.
The prosecution objected to Barrett being placed on bail.
Defence Attorney Mark Conway, in a bail application, told the court that his 40-year-old client has maintained his innocence. The Attorney also informed the court that two other persons were arrested during the raid at the nightclub. The defendant was released on bail, and the case was scheduled to continue on November 15, 2018.
