$300M Region 8 Police Divisional Headquarters to be completed soon
The $300 million Regional Divisional Headquarters that is currently being constructed in Mahdia, Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni), is expected to be completed soon.
On Saturday Police officials said the new and modern station will serve as the divisional headquarters for the region.
The building houses, among other things, six spacious compartments, and will function as a multi-purpose one, housing various departments of the Guyana Police Force (GPF), including traffic and immigration.
According to the district’s Regional Commander, Senior Superintendent Michael Kingston, the area has been earmarked for a regional hospital to be constructed next to the Police headquarters and an army base adjacent to the Police station.
Commander Kingston said the new building, which is a major disconnect to the current dilapidated cramped Police station, is in keeping with plans to decentralise the GPF. He added that it will add great value to the Police Force in his division.
Just a few days ago, it was announced that a newly built $200 million Police Regional Headquarters located in Anna Regina, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supernaam) will soon be commissioned in that district.
Police said that the building was designed to be more public-friendly and will facilitate a domestic violence office, a case management room, a witness protection room, an automotive case management system, an integrated crime information system, listening room (to reduce confrontation between perpetrators and victims), and offices.
The facility was visited by the Director of the Corporate Communications Unit, Mark Ramotar, and Deputy Director Stan Gouveia along with their team, as part of their regional visit to the Commander of the Division, Woman Superintendent Crystal Robinson.
The building will soon be formally handed over to the GPF by the Home Affairs Ministry.
