31 teams for Hamilton Green Cup, over $1M up for grabs

The Hamilton Green Cup Knockout Football tournament will begin on July 9 with a double-header at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) Ground in Linden, starting from 7:00pm.
Coordinator for the tournament is Lennox Arthur, a former national footballer and coach. Arthur has, for over 23 years, been staging this tournament, named in honour of former Prime Minister of Guyana and Mayor of Georgetown, Hamilton Green.
The following 31 teams have been invited from the various area associations to participate in the tournament: Western Tigers, Police, Santos, Pele, GFC, Riddim Squad, Beacon, Flamingo, Black Pearl and Camptown from Georgetown; Federal Winners Connection, Eagles, Silver Shattas and Milerock from Linden; Den Amstel, Uitvlugt, Pouderoyen, Eagles FC, Young Achievers and Golden Warriors from the West Demerara; Ann’s Grove, Mahaica, Golden Grove, Buxton Bakewell and Plaisance from the East Coast; Grove Hi Tech, Agricola, Herstelling, Soesdyke and Kuru Kururu from the East Bank; and New Amsterdam United from Berbice.

The respective clubs will be battling for cash prizes of $700,000 for the winner, $300,000 for second place, $200,000 for third place and $100,000 for fourth.
Only clubs and players affiliated to their respective associations will be allowed to participate in this knockout tournament. Matches will be last for the usual 90 minutes, with 20 minutes (two halves of 10) extra time being used to separate a deadlock; failing which penalty kicks, and if necessary sudden death kicks, will be employed.
Players receiving two yellow cards will be suspended for one match. Serious offences will be dealt with by the Guyana Football Federation’s (GFF’s) Disciplinary Committee.
Matches are fixed for July 9, 16, 19, 23, 29, 30; August 1, 6, 14, 16, 19, 20, 25, 27; September 3 and 10, when the semi-finals and final will be contested. The opening fixtures will see Milerock facing Riddim Squad and Silver Shattas battling Police at the MSC ground on Sunday, July 9. Match venues include the GFC, Victoria, Den Amstel and Leonora Sports Facility grounds.
The tournament was previously staged under the Mayor’s Cup KO Tournament, but has been changed from this edition to the Hamilton Green Cup Knockout Tournament.
