4 arrested as human trafficking ring busted

As investigations continue into a Trafficking In Persons (TIP) ring that was busted on Tuesday, the Police have arrested four persons at a bar along Garnett Street, Newtown, Kitty Georgetown.
The men were arrested on Thursday afternoon in connection with human trafficking.
This is according to a Police source who confirmed that the men were taken to the Criminal Investigations Department headquarters for questioning.
It is believed that the men had a hand in the discovery of 16 females suspected to have been trafficked during a raid by the Major Crimes Unit within the Guyana Police Force at a David Street, Kitty Home.
The women –- 14 Venezuelans, one Cuban and one Dominican Republic national – provided statements to investigators on Wednesday. The security guard attached to the building where the women were being kept was also arrested as investigations intensify.
Moreover, it is alleged that the home that was raided belonged to a Guyanese cricketer.
This information was confirmed by a senior Police source who said that the rescued females “are suspected to be victims of human trafficking at a bar … situated at Garnett Street”. Investigations are ongoing.
