Four persons were on Wednesday taken into custody after being busted with a quantity of ganja during an operation conducted by ranks of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) at Success, East Coast Demerara.
Based on reports received, CANU agents acting on information provided conducted an operation at 1st Street, success, ECD. A search of the location led to the discovery of a quantity of cannabis in Ziplock bags. Another search was conducted in the house, during which several other Ziplock bags containing cannabis were unearthed.
The ganja was confiscated, and when weighed, amounted to 157.2 grams.
CANU continues to conduct its operations within various communities with the sole intention of dismantling the networks that are engaged in the sale and/or distribution of narcotics in these areas.
One day prior to this bust, CANU ranks destroyed a cannabis farm found in the backlands of Victoria, East Coast Demerara.
It was reported that CANU officers acting on intelligence received conducted an operation in the backlands of Victoria Village and unearthed about 5000 cannabis plants ranging in height from 3 feet to 5 feet. In addition, fifteen 100lb salt bags containing processed cannabis equivalent to 500kgs were found. The cost of the processed ganja is estimated at $70 million. No one was arrested.
