Home News 4 charged following operation “Restore Order” in Region 2
Operation “Restore Order” conducted on the Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pameroon-Supenaam) has led to the arrest of several persons, after cordon and search exercises were carried out by Police ranks on 10 homes between Anna Regina and Supenaam.
Four suspects were however on Friday taken before Magistrate Esther Sam at the Suddie Magistrate’s Court, slapped with charges for offences ranging from narcotics possession to break and enter, and simple larceny.
Twenty-four-year-old Sheldon Patterson, a resident of Zorg, Essequibo Coast, was slapped with a charge of narcotics possession, which alleged that he on November 15, 2018, had nine grams of cannabis in his possession. The defendant admitted to the charge and was fined $4500 along with two months community service.
Meanwhile, Munaf Yakub, 39, of Lot 77 Huist Derien, Essequibo Coast, was charged for the offence of break and enter and larceny which he denied. As such, he was remanded to prison and the case will continue on December 7.
Another person, 32-year-old Lakeram Persaud of Reliance, Essequibo Coast, also faced a charge of breaking and entering and larceny. He also denied the charge and was released on $40,000 bail. The case will also continue on December 7.
Meanwhile, Albert Barcat, 46, of La Belle Alliance, Essequibo Coast, was arrested and charged on November 15 for the offence of simple larceny. He admitted to the charge and was jailed for four months.
