4 cops under investigation for assisting to traffic cocaine

Four ranks attached to the Guyana Police Force (GPF) are under investigation for allegedly collaborating with civilians to smuggle cocaine out of the country.
This was according to Public Security Minister Khemraj Ramjattan on Monday, who stated that depending on the outcome of the investigations, the ranks could face criminal charges.

“It will have a negative impact once you have misconduct in the Force. That is why I have zero tolerance for that. They are elements about the gravity of it. Certain things are so grave that you have to dismiss policemen. Terminate them immediately…,” Ramjattan added.
Head of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU), Lesley Ramlall, has stated that the unit is faced with the challenge of having cooperation at the lower level.
“The challenge here is getting every single member of law enforcement to understand that this has to be all about our country, and understand that once you are being lured or being tempted to get into to corrupted activities it has dire consequences for our country,” he had mentioned.
Nevertheless, it was alleged that the ranks assisted in getting the cocaine on a flight at the Eugene F Correia International Airport located at Ogle on the East Coast of Demerara. The incident was reportedly caught on camera.
