4 nabbed with large quantity of ganja

Four men were arrested on Saturday last following the discovery of a large quantity of cannabis in a wooden vessel and a car at Hope/Nootenzul, Lowland, East Coast Demerara.
Based on reports received, the Custom Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) conducted an operation on the East Coast of Demerara during which a wooden vessel and a taxi were searched and several bulky bags were unearthed.
The drug enforcement officers further checked the bags, and it was then discovered that they contained seeds, leaves and stems suspected to be cannabis. The illegal substance was weighed and amounted to 116.29kg (255 pounds).
The four men — Jason Dhanpat, Inderjet Beepat, Jermain Hikel and Teairre Ackeem Cush – have been arraigned in the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
They were remanded to prison, and will make another court appearance at the Cove and John Magistrate’s Court on September 8.

The drugs that was found

intercepted 82 parcels of cocaine weighing 91.132 kilogrammes, and 98 parcels of cannabis weighing 56.008 kilogrammes.
The illegal drugs were intercepted in a vessel at Mon Repos Channel, East Coast Demerara. Following the discovery, a couple was arrested and subsequently charged.
