4 remain hospitalised: 2 children still critical in ICU
Pomeroon River stabbing spree
The two women and two children who were brutally stabbed by a 15-year-old relative remain hospitalised at the Suddie Regional Hospital, with the latter still in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
This was confirmed by Regional Police Commander Crystal Robinson when contacted on Sunday. The Commander said the injured patient’s “condition remains the same”.
On Thursday last, the teenager went berserk at his home in Pomeroon River, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), killing his brother-in-law, 55-year-old Ramdat Singh, also called “Shami”, of Bat Creek, Upper Pomeroon River, and his nephew, three-year-old Kissoon Williams.
Reports are after the teen stabbed Singh, he attacked three children aged one, three and six, and his two sisters. He stabbed one of the women, and the three children about the bodies, while the other woman’s throat was slashed, after which he fled the area.
The injured persons were placed in a boat and rushed to the Charity Hospital. Singh was pronounced dead on arrival.
The other injured persons were all transferred to the Suddie Hospital, where two of them were rushed to the theatre for emergency surgery while the other three were admitted to the ICU in stable condition.
Three-year-old Williams succumbed to his injuries later in the evening
Meanwhile, the suspect was arrested in the presence of his father. Following his arrest, Police found stab wounds to the chest and a cut around his neck. He later admitted that he attempted to kill himself.
He was taken to the Charity Hospital where he was treated for his wounds and discharged into Police custody.
It is still unclear what might have led to the teen’s rampage, but it was reported that he might have been frustrated, since he was in self-quarantine as he had contracted COVID-19.
