A prima facie case has been made out against four persons to put them on trial at the Demerara High Court for the 2021 murder of 24-year-old Sophia, Greater Georgetown resident Keon McPherson.
Nicholas Hercules, called “Bucko”; Brennan Nurse; Devon Harry and Peter Lam are jointly charged with the capital offence and are currently on remand.
At the conclusion of a Preliminary Inquiry (PI) on Wednesday, Magistrate Rochelle Liverpool, after reviewing the evidence led by Police Prosecutor Visram Ramjattan, ruled that a sufficient case was made out against the accused to put them on trial by a jury before a Judge. They will go on trial at the next practicable sitting of the Demerara Criminal Assizes.
The PI was heard at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court.
The accused were not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that on August 15, 2021, at C Field, Sophia, they murdered McPherson.
It was reported that McPherson, of D Field, Sophia, was allegedly involved in a triangular love affair with a woman who was also intimate with another man of Broad and Lombard Streets, Georgetown. At the time of the killing, the woman at the centre of the triangular love affair resided at C Field, Sophia. The now dead man’s brother, Keron McPherson had told investigators that his brother left home about 23:50h on the day in question to go to his lover’s house. However, about 04:00h the next morning, a female contacted the Command Centre of the Police Force and reported that Keon was seen lying motionless with what appeared to be blood on his body. As a result, Police ranks went to the scene where they observed that the man had been shot once to his left chest and right hand. He was transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. As a result, the Police arrested the other two persons involved in the triangular affair. (G1)
