A four-year-old girl was on Saturday killed while her seven-year-old sister is clinging to life following a two-vehicle collision at Bushy Park Village, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara. Their mother is said to be in an unconscious state while three others were injured.
Dead is Raveena Harris of West Canje, Berbice, while her sister, Rafeena Harris was admitted in the High Dependency Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital. The mother Krmoa Harris is also said to be in a serious condition and also being treated at GPHC.
The others injured are Carlson Fattette, Latoya Wayne, a reporter with Little Rock Television Station, Berbice, and Samantha Bowling. The three are said to be nursing injuries but were listed as stable.
Based on information, Fattette was driving car bearing registration PSS 5092 heading to Georgetown while the other car driven by Bowling with registration PRR 1766 was heading in the opposite direction.
However, Bowling reportedly lost control of the car while negotiating a turn and veered into the path of Fattette’s thus resulting in the head-on collision.
Due to impact the car driven by Fattette ended up in a nearby trench. The occupants, including the two children, were pulled from the wreckage in an unconscious state by public-spirited citizens.
They were rushed to the Mahaicony Hospital but had to be transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital. However the four-year-old was pronounced dead on arrival.
