$40,000 bail for Kamuni Creek farmer on felonious wounding charge

Forty-seven-year-old Mark Toney of Kamuni Creek, West Bank Demerara (WBD), was on Thursday last released on ,000 bail for the charge of unlawfully and maliciously wounding Paul Sealey.
Toney, a chainsaw operator and farmer in the area, was granted his pre-trial liberty

after he entered a plea of not guilty when the felonious wounding charge was read out to him by Wales Magistrate Rochelle Liverpool.
The prosecution presented its facts, stating that on August 16 at Kamuni Creek, WBD, Toney committed the act on Sealey, but the accused man denied that this was so when he answered to the charge. In considering whether or not the defendant should be granted bail, the court took into account that Toney was the father of two young children below the age of 10, and never was previously charged.
As the prosecution had no objections, the farmer was initially placed on $65,000 bail, but his plea for a reduction was granted, with the Magistrate maintaining that $40,000 would be the lowest amount stipulated. At Thursday’s hearing, the alleged victim was not present in court. Toney is scheduled to make his next appearance at the Wales Magistrate’s Court on October 19 for report and fixtures.
