$414M contract awarded for sea sluice at D’ Edward

Courtney Benn Contracting Services Limited (CBCSL) has been awarded a contract to construct a four-door sluice for the Mahaica-Mahaicony Abary Agriculture Development Authority (MMA/ADA) in Region Five (Mahaica/Berbice).
The sluice is to be built at a cost of $414.6 million, and is to be constructed at D’ Edward Village, West Coast Berbice, E&A Consultants Incorporated has been awarded a $16 million contract to supervise the works. Courtney Benn of CBCSL and Ansha Ally of E&A Consultants Incorporated signed their respective contracts in the boardroom of the MMA/ADA at Onverwagt, West Coast Berbice on Friday.

Benn has committed to completing the project within eighteen months, and has pledged to utilise as much labour from the West Berbice area as possible.
The Department of Public Information(DPI) has quoted General Manager of the MMA/ADA, Aubrey Charles, as saying the new sluice will enhance drainage of all residential areas and agricultural lands along the West Berbice coast between the Abary and Berbice Rivers, which is the Abary/Berbice Sub-Region of Region Five.
Charles disclosed that the new sluice would be constructed adjacent to the old three-door sluice currently at D’Edward, which has lost its efficiency after decades of service. The contract for the design of the sluice was awarded by the MMA/ADA to SRKN Engineering in May 2017.
