Home News 42 arrested for breaching COVID-19 guidelines
A total of 42 persons who were in breach of the COVID-19 guidelines were arrested on Sunday during “Operation COVICURB”.
The five-hour-long operation was conducted by ranks of Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne).
Police said the operation targeted public transportation, public spaces and other social activities.
Earlier in April, a total of 21 persons had been arrested between April 10 to April 13. Of the 21, a total of 12 persons had been arrested at Mabaruma, North West District (NWD), Region One (Barima-Waini), while the others were arrested at Vergenoegen, Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara).
In addition, on Easter Monday, a number of Essequibians were caught in large gatherings and were arrested for breaching the COVID-19 guidelines. The violators were arrested at Adventure Resort, Lake Mainstay Resort, Golden Fleece and Capoey Lake.
Also, 40 persons were arrested during a COVID-19 patrol operation along the East Bank of Demerara (EBD). Police said those persons were also in breach of the COVID-19 restrictions at the Boat House Bar at Land of Canaan, EBD.
The operation included officers of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) and the Guyana Defence Force (GDF).
Despite the 22:30h to 04:00h (10:30 pm to 04:00 am) curfew and the existing regulations stipulating the maximum numbers for social gatherings, scores of citizens continue to violate the regulations.
